Your Xbox One Won't Require Kinect - At All

Posted by Ken Barnes

Microsoft confirms.

Just in case you missed it, Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One will be entirely functional from a gaming point of view if you decide that you don't want your Kinect 2.0 device to be plugged in to it.

As we already knew - but many, many people decided to ignore - there is an option to entirely disable Kinect, and that's always been the case. We were all under the impression that the device would still need to be connected though. Not so, says Microsoft's Marc Whitten. In a Q&A session with IGN, Whitten categorically stated that "like online, the console will still function if Kinect isn’t plugged in, although you won’t be able to use any feature or experience that explicitly uses the sensor."

That should put some of the more paranoid of minds at rest, we'd hope.

very nice! So far, for a guy who owns a Nintendo stuff and a PS3, this Xbox One is really making me consider giving Microsoft another go. I like the fact you don't need to have Kinect plugged in, but it comes with the console still. I also like that they decided to add a headset to the package! Wonder what else their gonna correct before this thing launches? :P

seems tempting to me but I still need a deal maker game for me to upgrade. Good feature though!

This sealed the deal for me. The day Halo 5 comes out is the day I get an Xbox One. I'm very happy that MS listened to consumers for once.
