Hacking Not Behind Xbox Live Outage

Posted by Ken Barnes

Microsoft plays down reports.

A number of outlets have reported that the recent period of Xbox Live downtime was due to the service being hacked.

A Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed to Videogamer, that this is most certainly not the case. The unnamed source states that the outage was down to a "networking misconfiguration during routine maintenance" and was "in no way related to false claims of hacking the service."

These things happen, we guess. Maybe they shouldn't, but they do. It only takes one person making one ill-advised but well-intentioned change to create all sorts of problems. The service came back online after a few hours, and has been stable since.

@Majin-Naruto I guess so! Although saying that, I think I only failed to connect for about 30 minutes. A lot of folks were off for 6 hours.

Only failed to connected for about a hour. After that everything worked expect a few of the secondary online functions were still wonky.

Still better than the frequent shut offs PSN has I guess.

I wonder if someone was trying to make a point on how bad always connected will be for the 720.

As for me I wasn't affected cause I was at work the whole time and when I got home everything was fine.

I was able to log in.
The only problems I had were with the Friends list.
I couldn't add, delete or view profiles.
