Disney Shuts Down LucasArts

Posted by Jordan Marsden

All current projects terminated...

It seems like Disney doesn't have much interest in video game endeavours, both Epic Mickey games flopped spectacularly, and now the mouse-fronted corporation have closed the established LucasArts studio and laid-off 150 employees in the process.

While the future of Star Wars: 1313 was already in question, this news all but confirms the cancellation of the highly-anticipated title, along with Star Wars: First Assault.

Disney insists that the door remains open for external developers and publishers to license the games, but a Kotaku source claims that any chance of this happening are "effectively zero" and "both games are effectively dead forever".

A statement from LucasFilm (the parent company of LucasArts) reads: "As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

This is a shame. This studio was very hit and miss but when it delivered it knocked it out of the park.

1313 was nearly complete.
BattleFront 3 was nearly complete.
I don't get why they just don't release them and at least recoup some of the loss...

Wow shame on you Disney laying off all those people in these hard economical times. Honestly I am starting to dislike Disney more and more. They have totally lost themselves and have just become another greedy corporate giant.
