Confirmed: Castle of Illusion Coming to XBLA

"Re-imagined from the ground up."

As we reported a week or so ago, the 16-bit classic Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is indeed getting an Xbox Live Arcade release, as confirmed by Sega today.

However, this is not just a quick port, oh no. Rather, the game has been rebuilt from the ground up by Sega Studios Australia, and looks to include some pretty slick graphics, as well as new gameplay mechanics. The original storyline has been left intact though, with the goal being to help Mickey to save Minnie from the evil witch Mizrabel.

Chris Olson, VP of Digital Business at Sega of America, said: "The original Castle of Illusion was tremendously entertaining and has a well-deserved reputation as a SEGA classic. Castle of Illusion Featuring Mickey Mouse brings this great game to a new generation. Mickey is back, and he looks fantastic."

If the early screenshots we've grabbed for you are anything to go by, then we can't say that we disagree.

There's no fixed date for the game yet, but we're promised that it'll be released at some point during this summer.
