Destiny Heading to 360, Destined for 720?

Next-Gen On The Cards

Bungie have been releasing more information about their upcoming title Destiny via various sources, and it appears that the title will definitely be heading to the Xbox 360, and at least one "future generation technology".

The game is being described as a shooter with MMO-like qualities, persistent worlds, and some sandbox elements, with some outlets reporting that missions will be procedurally generated, rather than being solidly scripted from the get go. Set strictly in the realms of sci-fi, the game will take players all over the solar system, and requires an always-on Internet connection. With that in mind, Bungie were quick to clarify that they have no intention of charging a subscription fee for the game.

Bungie released an official game description on their forum yesterday. It goes a little something like this:-

“Everything changed with the arrival of the Traveler. It sparked a Golden Age when our civilization spanned our solar system, but it didn’t last. Something hit us, knocked us down. The survivors built a city beneath the Traveler, and have begun to explore our old worlds, only to find them filled with deadly foes. You are a Guardian of the last safe city on Earth, able to wield incredible power. Defend the City. Defeat our enemies. Reclaim all that we have lost.”

Alongside that, the company revealed that Destiny features an "unprecedented variety of FPS gameplay that redefines the genre breaks traditional conventions of story, cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes, combined with public and social activities."

Can Bungie recreate the success of the Halo series with Destiny? Will the game become one of the Xbox 720's core titles? We're sure to find out more over the coming year. The game currently has no scheduled release date - but we're betting we'll find out more around E3 time in June.

I'm interested in how this turns out. 343 may do multiplayer better than Bungie on my opinion, but Bungie's Halo games were more polished and consistently better throughout the campaign (some levels in Halo 4 were quite a bit worse visually or the amount of glitches was considerably greater than others). Bungie's experience and interest in revolutionizing FPS games make me interested in this product.
Edit: The new patch for Halo 4 seemed to make the textures on the walls from the 1st level higher resolution, so I'd assume it also fixes the glitches where you get your foot stuck on a dead sniping grunt on the 8th level too.

I think it'd make perfect sense for MS to get this as a timed 'next-gen exclusive.' Lets face it, MS really doesn't have much in the way of its own franchises right now aside from Halo and Forza, so what better way to launch the new system than with the next big game from the people who made Halo?
