Xbox Music for Kinect Launching Later this Year

Posted by James Newton

"Xbox, party time!"

A big focus of Microsoft's E3 2011 press conference was a huge increase in voice commands for Xbox 360, particularly with the Bing slogan "you say it, Xbox finds it". Part of that new service is Xbox Music, launching this Fall.

Xbox Music will offer 11 million songs and use Kinect's voice commands to let you search the catalogue and find the track right for you. With that many songs on offer, the voice recognition had better be pretty good — nobody wants to find Justin Bieber when you asked for Bon Iver.

There's no word yet on pricing and release date for the service, but we'll bring you more when we get it.

this rumor was debunked. the writer misunderstood what Ballmer said. He meant to say that they are expanding the voice functionality to Zune music. so it's not a new service, just making the existing service better.
