Talking Point: Game Shows That Would Work on Kinect

Posted by James Newton

Come on down!

Wipeout: In The Zone is bringing its big red balls and sucker punches to Kinect, but it's not the only game show that could work well on the sensor. With a leading entertainment brand teaming with Kinect, plus the Hole in the Wall-like minigame in the Carnival Games: Monkey See, Monkey Do, our minds naturally turned to TV shows that we'd like to see on Kinect.

As always we threw the question out to our loyal Twitter followers to see what ideas they had, and as with our recent Kinect Sports 2 feature the suggestions ranged from the brilliant to the bizarre.

Richfrombechtle: Family Fortunes. Price is Right. Gladiators (not quite a gameshow but still awesome!)

Rsxl: Surely the best game would be a Kinect version of the Cube.

Stranger_UK: The Crystal Maze!!! (It would HAVE to be the Richard O' Brien era though). They could use the mic so you could shout, "Can you start the fans please?!"

These are just a handful of possibilities, so we want to know what game show you want to see come to Kinect. Join the discussion below!

Its like you guys have read my list of articles that I should really write soon! :)

I agree with RSXL - The Cube would be excellent, done correctly. Europress currently have a version in development, but they haven't specified which formats it'll be for. Hint: It'll blatantly be Wii-only shovelware. :(

Crystal maze is such a great idea...what a perfect idea for mini games involving just the sort of skills, balance and brains possible with kinect..someone get the idea to a developer! Won't even try to think of something better!

Thats cool-maybe you could tell us yanks about the Cube and Crystal Maze. Running Man was a 1980's Arnold Schwarzenegger movie about criminals who were used in a game show as contestants. If they won they would get there freedom and if they lost. . . well losing was dieing at the hands of these super gladiators, known as stalkers, who hunted down the contestants with chainsaws and over the top personalities. This concept has been done a million times over but Running Man holds a lot of fond memories for me. It is probably very cheesy by today's standards but when it came out it was quite violent. Both of these aspects would lend themselves to a game well. Here is a trailer:

That sounds awesome. Would definitely work for Kinect!

I don't know much about The Cube, other than it's a series of physical and mental challenges that happen to take place in a large transparent box, but I used to love The Crystal Maze. You had a choice of 'zones' to visit, from industrial to jungle, and different tests of agility, mental acuity and more. You had to pass the tests to receive a crystal, which gave you more time in "The Crystal Dome", where you earned money. It was a bit bizarre but always good fun!

Trailer below. Also, the host is Richard O'Brien, who wrote the Rocky Horror Picture Show!

Awesome! Richard O'Brien is awesome and I just watched one of the shows on Youtube. This would lend it's self to Kinect rather well. Thanks James. Gonna check the Cube as well. . . Perfect! We have a show called "Minute to win it." It's similar and pretty good but the Cube is a perfect fit for Kinect. Given that it limits the play space by actually placing the player in the Cube-it's quite fitting. All these games would be great but now even I am starting to get impatient for something that is beyond the scope of mini-games. Mini games have soo much potential on Kinect and I'm sure we will see a ton of them. Hopefully E3 will showcase something a bit more involved. (fingers crossed)
