Microsoft has just announced its financial results for the first 3 months of 2011, and its Entertainment & Devices Division (EDD) has reported big increases in revenue and profit, thanks in part to the success of Kinect and the new Xbox 360 S.
The division posted a 50% jump in profits, raking in $225m in a three month period. The growth is partially attributed to Kinect, which shifted 2.4m units to bring the worldwide installed base up to around 10.5m sensors.
Microsoft predicts EDD revenues to increase a further 25% in the next three months, bringing it somewhere in the region of $2.4 billion. To get there it's going to have to sell a lot of sensors.
