Had a new problem tonight - game refused to save manually and doesn't seem to have auto saved at all - all evening. If I end up losing all the stuff I've done tonight I'm going to be well pissed tomorrow.

Oh no! I must admit I do a lot of manual saves while playing. Mainly so I don't have to re-collect items after exploring. Is there a way to take a copy of the save game file onto memory stick like you could on the 360? I've been playing this FAR more that I should and really don't want to lose progress.

Wtf.. lost every single thing I did yesterday... including a witcher contact, several treasure hunts and a load of secondary quests and monster nests I cleared. Also lost a whole level and all the new gear I had bought/found and kitted myself out with.

This is a great game but this is an appalling, game breaking bug. The prospect of having to redo all that stuff is really depressing and I'm tempted to just move on to something else until they get their act together. (I've had other problems too with loading screens freezing and the game quitting to the dashboard mid-fight).

By the way this save bug seems to be caused by allowing the game to go into standby when you turn off your xbox... might want to avoid doing so until this is patched.

I'm of to see if I can muster the enthusiasm to go retread a lot of old ground now :-/

DAMN

I do wonder if there are more issues with the Digital version (you did buy it this way didn't you) as it seems those with the most problems are those that bought it this way. Also those that don't save and quit to main menu and power off the console but go into Standby. I can only assume its a Cache related issue. Maybe too full and affected the saves - inc the checkpoint ones too.

I can't believe you lost that much though with the way the game has checkpoint saves - at least mine does. I get a few during each stage of Witcher Contracts for example. There is a patch due this week (if its not arrived already) so hopefully this will fix this issue for you. Whilst it won't recover your lost progress, I hope it doesn't lose any further progress.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

I don't know if that is possible but think it should be. I know the saves are in the cloud but I assume there must be a console save file too for those that don't connect to the internet.

Hmmm, might be the save corruption kraken that CD Projekt RED is being hammered about on the forums. The frame locking patch I wrote about two days ago possibly contains a fix to this but CD hasn't been forthcoming about it.

Kotaku had a few suggestions on how to temporarily solve the issue.

Yes I bought the digital version...though I think it's mostly to do with the fact that I've just been leaving the game running all the time, putting my xbox into standby and then continuing where I left of the next day. Not doing that any more now though!

My game usually auto saves too on a regular basis but on this occasion these had stopped too. It was only when I repeatedly couldn't manually save late in the evening that I realised something was up...

Have you tried to see if your saves are on the cloud? I don't know if its possible but it seems for some that their local save are not working but the cloud save is ok. Its sounds risky to me to delete the local save point - especially on a game with many many hours invested in it.

Do you not have the checkpoint saves when you try and load up a game? I assume not...

All this 'covenience' (instant on, Suspending the game etc) seems to be more hassle and problematic and a lot less 'convenient'

There is a local file, but it 'syncs' top the cloud when connected, so I assume any corruption is also sync'd. Sympathy goes to @Stylon for losing progress. I'll be PISSED if this happens to me. I'll be taking BAMs advice and saving/quitting to menu until I hear a fix has been applied. Up to now I've been leaving game loaded and using standby mode. One of the 'benefits' of Xbox One... hmm.

Must admit, I'm not a fan either of the whole automatic cloud save thing. I preferred the old way when you could choose to use it. I know it's convenient (I've got two ones) but I would rather use a USB save and move it myself. Yes, I'm a bit of a Luddite but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. There are an awful lot of babies in Microsofts bath water!

Here's a question: Anyone else noticed (or not noticed) achievements popping for this game? Maybe I'm so engrossed, I'm missing the notification, but I just checked my stats on TA and found I've unlocked more than I realised.

I do have the notifier enabled as other game achievements pop.

I find that happens with quite a few games these days... quite annoying as I like to know when I've earned them :-/

I'm getting achievements popping. I stayed up until 13:00 trying to get the Even Odds achievement and was mystified when it didn't pop for 3 contracts. The final contract popped it. Might be that you are so absorbed by the game that you are missing them

Thanks guys. It's entirely possible I have a bit of a problem with this game. When you find yourself thinking "ah damn. I should have eaten dinner over an hour ago"...it's never good.

I must admit, I have noticed my achievements popping - at least most of them - I think.... I am not exactly looking for them specifically though or playing the game in a certain way specifically to get them although I must admit, I am certainly trying to get 2 in particular - the one for completing the game on Blood & Broken Bones difficulty and going for getting the crew to Kaer Morhen too.

I will definitely have another playthrough as the second achievement has impacts on my game experience, story and no doubt ending too but I am not giving away Spoilers....

TBH I only looked at the achievement list recently. I've been too engrossed with investigating the ?s on the map. I'm a bit OCD with things hidden on maps, or maps that unlock as you visit areas. I'm actually starting to wonder IF I'll manage to discover all the side quests. There are SO many!

I'm also on the Blood n Bones difficulty, so will check out the achievements you mention @BAMozzy.

There is only one that is governed by that difficulty level - the other can be achieved regardless but it does mean you have to pick the right choices and can be easily missed. If you have made the wrong choice with certain characters or missed certain side quests (trying not to give anything away) then this acievement will not be possible.

I am not interested in the 'Gwent' based achievements at all. If I wanted to play a card game, I would have bought a pack of Cards!!! Once completed though I may try and go for any other achievements I may have missed - Might even have a go at the one for the hardest difficulty too but I think this is my level...

Gwent is a bastard game to play. As soon as I see the opponent has the 'monster' cards, I know I've lost.
Oh - looks like the patch has gone live. The Wife has just been booted out for it to apply. 660Mb....

So, my witcher saves got wiped out. Switched on my Xbone in the lounge and the patch was downloading. Switched it off, went into my study, switched my one on to play borderlands and the witcher patch started downloading. It only seemed to download about 100 meg and then completed. Thought it was weird, switched it off and went back to lounge, tried loading witcher and it gave a weird message and re downloaded the patch. It was too fast for me to catch exactly what the message was. Once it ran, it tried to cloud sync to my other one, upshot all saves gone. I think it started the patch download in one one and finished it on the other.

Message to self.
If a patch is downloading, do not switch your other box on, even if you've switched the other one off. Luckily, I hadn't played too much (only just killed the Griffon), I would have been really piss...d if I'd played more.
