I think a martial arts training game might be kind of cool.
Tae Kwon Do Kinect
or
Karate Kinect
or something like that.

I sit in a Dojon watching my kids take Tae Kwon Do lesssons 2-3 times a week.  With regards to form, a lot of it just repetition.  Surely, if the Kinect can monitor dance moves, it can monitor one's martial arts prowess.  A bunch of minigames could be implemented that would allow the player (student) to hit targets, defend againt other opponents, etc in various historical locales.  There could also be some trivia.  Maybe integrate various characters or famous people (founders etc) in the game to teach the doctrine of the martial as well as learn some of the core beliefs through "living history" in which the player participates.

What other game ideas does everyone have?

I'd like to see integration with current games, retro-fitting only certain parts.  For example Mass Effect 2 you should still be able to play the game via controller, but for the galaxy map or planet scanning it would be cool to use the Kinect to move things around.  Or use basic voice commands in Red Dead Redemption like calling/whistling for your horse or initiate interaction with an NPC by saying something or a gesture.

Things like these would refreshen up a lot of people current libraries, giving them a chance to play them again and also give the Kinect some interaction with "core" games.  Everyone would be happy!!!

I hope some Retro RPG games with Kinect, like Breath of Death VII or Dragon Quest in XBLA or Indies. I don't need so much heavy stories or real graphics, I just want  RPG like growing system, EXP system, with kind of martial arts using Kinect.  Short story, cheap budget, like Breath of Death VII in Xbox Indie games are good. The players use Kinect only on Battle, use controller on 2D map.

I am Japanese, living in Tokyo.

I'd like to be able to walk through the environments and explore them freely without having the game tell me where to go.  It would be a fun way to connect the mini games if there was an option to walk through a city that had parks and a beach...the beach volleyball could be at the beach; tai chi or yoga could be in a pretty park near a tranquil pool; there could be a bowling alley for bowling, a dance club or bandstand for dancing, etc.  It would be neat to walk up to a door and use the motion sensor to "open" it.  It would also be cool to have an apartment or house you could decorate and call your own, in game; maybe earn points to get a bigger place.
There could be driving or skateboarding mini games for people who don't want to walk from place to place; who want to get there faster.
I know they wouldn't want to put all of these things in one game, but maybe it could start out as a basic game, like walking through the city, but then have add on packs, like they do in the Sims games.

I love walking but I live in a snowy environment and I really miss walking when winter comes (extreme cold hurts my lungs).  It would be so cool to have a game that would let me walk in different environments...different countries, even.  I know it wouldn't appeal to everyone, but not everyone can play the jumping/leaping games, as fun as they are.

I love playing adventure games because you can go anywhere in the game...you're not stuck going in a single direction...I'd like to see that in future Kinect games.

Kat12,  That's actually a pretty cool idea.  Hmmm...how about we take your idea and then add our avatars.  It could then be a sims/meeting/chat type of game.  You could walk around in the town/city and visit your friends.  You would walk through the town to their house and knock on the door.  If they're not home then you could leave a post-it type message on their front door for them.  If they were home, then they would open the door of their house and you could walk in and interact with them as if you were in a public chat.  Maybe they have friends over already and you could chat with them too.

We could use microsoft points to purchase our homes and accessories.  Maybe a car or bicycle.  There could also be themed areas of the town where you could purchase your home and there would be special miniquests that were relevant to your themed area.  For example, you walk to your home and notice that someone has left you a strange note on your door.  After reading it, you discover that a world renown art thief has stolen a few pieces of art from the museum down the street and they need your help investigating (because you live in Detectiveville).  Or maybe someone just lost their cat and they need your help finding Fluffy.

A step further:  how about an entire (real) city built in an xbox persistant world, or maybe just a city block.  Your avatar could walk to your neighborhood Pizza Hut (an actualy Pizza Hut restaurant sponsored by the actual restaurant) and order a pizza via text menu or by speaking to an "operator".  Then it could be delivered to your home in real life.  Microsoft could also integrate "virtual world" product ordering with the Microsoft Points Reward system too as an added incentive.

(sorry for the all of text)

Hi Magi,
If only we know how to program games, lol.  We'd have a winner for sure.
I'd buy it.  It would be fun to add on to the world and customize it. How cool would it be to walk into a pizza hut and actually order a pizza.  They could have a real menu if they just put one item with pictures on each page, and let us select it by hovering our hand over it.
I love the idea of mini adventures, like solving a theft!  It would be possible to bend over and pick up the note too, with this technology.
I'm a writer, so text is my friend; don't apologize.  ;-)

Sorry if this is a bit long but this is my idea.  I like the virtual work idea that Kat mentioned.  After seeing all the ideas that people have been doing with there computers it shows how creating virtual worlds that you can interact with is possible.  I know for a long time people talked about how hard it would be to navigate a virtual world.  You would either have to lean forward or something or walk in place.  I had a better idea. What if you had for example a murder mystery game or even an old style RPG like kings quest only you are in the world.  For those that played those games, they were basically broken up into rooms or areas that you moved from.  if you were on a beach you could walk around in an area then to leave it you walk east or west or something to go to the next area.

My thoughts what if you navigated the same way with kinect.  In the beginning it would detect how big of a space you had to play in by have you stand in different spots.  Then you could start out say in a room.  You could manipulate everything in that room walk forward to a wall.  If you needed to turn you could turn left then the camera angle int he game would turn and when you turn straight again you are now facing west instead of south.  You could walk around in the room pick things up look at books ect..  Any one who has played kinect knows that keeping the cursor in the exact same place even when you hold you hand still is a bit challenging.  If you wanted to use a magnifying glass for example you could open your hand up like to say stop and it would freeze the position of your hand so you could use the magnifying glass to inspect for details.  You could pick objects up to look underneath them.  You could have you back pack be at your waist so when you move your right hand down or something you could open it and then grab what ever object you needed.  then to move to the next screen you could walk to the door hold your hand up and it would say do you want to go though the door.  If you say yes.  Then the screen would go dark.  You move back to the back of your play area again and go to the next room or area.

You could then integrate basic fighting if you had to fight some bad guys.

What do you think of this idea?  To me it seems like it could be a lot of fun.

I'd really like to see a Pikmin type game that utilizes voice- reconition and a point-and-click control scheme. Maybe your Avatar can lead an army of soldiers into battle. I'd think it'd be pretty neat. Or maybe I just want another Pikmin-type game at the moment.

I was thinking that since Kinect is essentially a motion capture device, you could come out with a game where you could create your own cartoons and movies. You provide the movements to the character and see the animation repeat it on screen. Then provide a tool set and props and such so you can rotate and edit your recorded movements and place them into an enviroment. Maybe even a 360 answer to PS3's Littlebigplanet where players could create their own game scenario's and cut scenes. Even have a microphone to add dialogue with.

For pre existing licenses, I think Viva Pinata would be a PERFECT fit. The controller version basically plays like a kinect anyway with a hand hovering over everything. With Rare's knowledge of the device it would probably be pretty polished. I wouldn't be surprised if it is already in development.

Condemned might be a good one too for people looking for horror. Beating crazy hobo's down with your bare fists and pipes and stuff. Mirror's Edge would be another interesting one.

I can also see top down Diablo style gaming getting a revival with you controlling movements God style by pointing where you want your character to go in the enviroment and gesture based attacks on enemies when you get there.

A game of the Gladiators TV show would also fit. Basically a series of obstacles and challenges that would suit Kinect's style.

Some sort of Superman style flying platformer could also work. Put your two fists forward and lean to fly towards destinations, collect power ups etc.

Obviously RTS would be a fit too. Maybe with integrated voice commands for fast switching between squads.

A pro wrestling game might also be fun to watch if people had to replicate all the moves and would probably suit the Kinect's slight lag a little more than straight up brawlers.

How about an 2D on-rails platforming game where you have to jump, duck, and move back and forth between different "layers" to advoid hazards? That would be quite intense!

That WOULD be intense. Very original!  smile

There's some pretty groovy ideas in here guys.  I can see the royalty checks heading our direction any day now!

Kinect may be a super outstanding device for xbox 360, but there are some pieces in the set missing to making it the top topic of which evereyone talks about, kinect needs much better games, such as THE LAST AIRBENDER, because I thought it would be the coolest thing being able to do all those bending moves by your own, which makes you fit into the cahracter, and allows you to be focused in the game and all of a sudden you dont know what the real world is because it is so catching and interesting... it would make it much better like that PS... also needs little better graphics.. BUT DEFINETLEY BETTER GAMES!!!

They should definitely get a Star Trek game on this thing. Was just thinking that your living room could literally be the bridge and the TV the big screen the bridge has. Could make good use of voice commands "WARP SPEED!"

That's actually a pretty cool idea and would be great use for the Voice Commands.  They would definitely either have to get the Original cast where you play as Kirk, or Next Generation where you play as Picard.

But, I have yet to see a Star Trek game that doesn't suck.

You know, it struck me a few weeks ago how much fun a Godzilla style monster simulator would be on Kinect. I don't know if anybody has played Fingerzilla on the Iphone, but basically you have a cityscape that you have to completely destroy by taking your finger against it. Imagine stomping through a city, taking down buildings with a swipe of your hand, perhaps even special movements you can do to let out special attacks like fire breathing, mega stomps, laser eyes, etc. on Kinect. I'd love it!

Is there a likely possibility of getting new movement -Qi Gong, Tai Chi programs - with speed controlled by the user? when will developer access be opened up to independent developers? or must one persuade EA?

I have some serious health program plans if anyone is interested

I am not a big fan of these types of games, but would be willing to try it out again. But, games like TOTAL WAR  seems a no brainer. I was reading the review in GI. and thought how great it would be to move groups around with hands. I am sure something like that would come up soon.

ARCADE-Family
Type of charades game where you use your hand to draw on the tv screen using either paint or (steam screen) and compete between teams, possible split screen.

Xbox Live Avatar Baseball....worked nice with the Wii, it will work great with Kinect.

Xbox Live Avatar WHEEL OF FORTUNE. One person gets to be "Vanna White"

Incorporate the Kinect technology of moving into a games like,
Fight night.
It would be a great workout and, you get a chance to play a more realistic version of Tyson/Ali on screen in 3rd person view.

Incorporate the Kinect technology of moving into a games like
karaoke/rock band,
My friends and i love Rock band but where are the original artists on screen?? Who doe's not want to be the real deal on scree? We all love artist's and athletes and lets face it, we all wish we were them.
Who would not love to have a karoke game such as, and jump on stage, holding the mic and point it at the screen so that the the fans singer scream the chorus of the song, Moving on stage as the lead singer of Linkin Park, Billy idol, Michael Jackson, Pink , Enrique Iglesias yeah i said it, i like his music too LOL etc.

I'd like to echo the Martial Arts suggestion, my 7 year old son is taking Tae Kwon Do, and this evening for family night we watched the new Karate Kid. It was all we could do to keep the kid sitting to watch the movie. Frankly, I'm not to certain how much of a fun game it could be, and martial art elitist will no doubt rail at the idea of an automated instruction environment. However, when I consider the effect of having a Kinect enabled interface demonstrating and critiquing movements, the effect could be astounding for a youngster wanting to learn something like that. While there is no substitute for the actual contact of sparring and the lesson of the reality of getting hit... learning the coordination of doing the movements and knowing the forms would be invaluable for a growing child.
I'm not sure it should be a multiplayer experience though... something tells me a split screen isn't going to cut it while a couple yahoos romp it out Street Fighter style!
