Before the Beta I was iffy, even after the Beta I was iffy. It was my wise gamer brother who convinced me that Destiny would be something different, not seen before, not experienced. I took his word and plunged headfirst into what seemed an odd crossbreed of MMO, Shooter, Adventure and many other game types. It's now been a while and am I ever glad that I did! Since launch I've made over SIXTY new Xbox friends from all over the world, joined in on many exciting raids and strikes, and really have had to learn each players strengths and weaknesses. For this fact alone, I love Destiny!

When discussing the social impact of Destiny the question I always see come up is; How much is natural interaction and how much is subtly forced by the game itself?
Any game offers the opportunity for players to interact and be social, whether its in the game, on social media or community forums. Anyone can join a random Battlefield or Call of Duty match and start talking with people on their team because their objective to win coincides

Destiny does the same, but much like other MMO's it can also puts players into a situation where they ultimately have to ask for help to complete the Weekly, Nightfall or Raid. Destiny simply creates social interaction from the difficulty of the game. Is that a bad thing? That depends on who you ask. Personally I like that Destiny offers high difficultly to get players to say "Hello" to each other.

I agree. Anything that gets people talking to each other is good. I wouldn't necessarily want it to become a trend in gaming (because I'm not all that social!), but I think the odd title could do with features like that for sure.

I certainly enjoy the social aspects that a game like Destiny offers.  Heck the social aspects in World of Warcraft is one reason I have stayed subscribed for so many years.  I can honestly say that if it wasn't for that I probably would have stopped playing WoW years ago.

It's nice to see console based games starting to do that now as well.  I have seen it not with just Destiny but also with Diablo III and GTA V as well now we just need heists in GTA V and I am sure the social impact of that game will really take off.
