Xbox Controller on My Computer?

I'm trying to use my xbox 360 controller on my laptop. I have the updated driver installed and the device is recognized and everything, but after turning on the accessories status on my computer and hitting the Xbox button on my controller, the controller ring just flashes green (the whole ring) forever, and the status icon on my screen doesn't react in any way. The controller is connected by a Charge and Play USB cord. I'm running windows 7. What's going on and how to fix?

Call up microsoft they should walk you step by step otherwise refer to the manual and it should tell you some troubleshooting tips

Is this an original xbox controller?
To use a xbox controller on a pc you need to buy the Xbox 360 controller for Windows, which comes with a wireless reciever.
If you want to save money you can buy the contorller for windows wired one.
