How to Fix Red Screen Error on Playstation 3?

There's a red screen error that shows up on the screen in different languages. I want to know if there is a fix for this. And no calling Sony isn't an option because I'm not covered by warranty so don't suggest that. I accessed the recovery menu and am not able to rebuild the database or restore the file system. What is a good method for fixing this.
