Suggestion:
You HAVE to keep it off of the carpet.. My friend leaves his on the carpet and so much dust has accumulated on the disc reader that it won't even load a disc. You shouldn't have any troubles.. I've had mine for years.. (had RRoD twice but got a replacement in a maximum of 3 days both times). You should have no problems if you keep it off of the carpet in a well ventilated area. You can also buy a little thing that the xbox sits on and it blows air into the xbox to keep it cool and dust free.. I've seen them for $15 AUD. It's worth buying to save you a whole xbox.. I recommend it if your warranty has expired.

well ive had my 360 for a year or two and it froze on me only once or twice. just reboot it to fix it and remember to save whenever you can
Keep it in a open and clean area, don't put it on carpet. There are vents in the side and back of it that you want open. Try to keep the area clean of dust, if it builds up it can cause issues. I just wipe mine down every few weeks and it seems to work out just fine. It doesn't freeze anymore often then anything else and certain games are more prone to it then others. Basically though I have found that when its overheating, it is more likely to freeze.
