Suggestion:
Try and go through the xbox.com repair advice. They have multiple options you can select for what is wrong with your xbox. Try and select one that doesn't cost anything (it will tell you which ones cost how much after you've selected them). Otherwise just try removing the hard drive and putting it back in. That can [for some reason] keep the xbox alive
