Any Downside to This Fix for a Ring-scratched Xbox 360 Disc?

I accidently tipped over my Xbox 360 while Halo: Reach was inside, and the console was OK, but the disc got a perfect ring-scratch. The disc won't work now, so I'm going to try the Turtle Wax fix, where you spread it on the scratches and rub it a few times with differant cloths until all of it is off, and then do it again as necessary.

Is there any downside to doing this fix on the disc?
Over time, might the heat and the laser that reads the disc make some turtle wax or something from the disc melt in the system?

Suggestion:

Normally scratched games can be fixed by someone who know what they are doing, so go to a shop or microsoft and have it fixed. Don't try the turtle stuff unless you feel comfortable using it.
