Horde Versus Alliance in Wow

You can take an interesting study of good and evil by looking at the two factions in World of Warcraft. The World of Azeroth in World of Warcraft is divided down the middle between the two huge, dominating, warring factions: The Alliance versus The Horde. So what sort of people choose the baddies and who picks the god side? What does each faction consist of? And the biggest question: Who is better? Find out which side could be for you in this article.

Now although you definitely find bad characters on the side of The Alliance, and plenty of good guys in The Horde. On the whole The Horde represents the bad guys in WoW, and The Alliance are the good guys. You can see this clearly reflected in the races of each side. The races of The Alliance are Humans, Night Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes and the wierd but noble Draenei. And on the side of The Horde are the Orcs, The Trolls, Tauren, Undead and the beautiful but evil Blood Elves.

So when you choose which side to play, there are three factors: the first is which race your class can be – many classes are limited to only certain races, but all classes can be played by both sides. Two, what races attract you – for the fun of it, how they look, or more importantly the racial abilities they have when you start. And lastly, do you want to represent the goodies or the baddies?

The demographics of exactly who plays Horde or Alliance out of the 11 million players of WoW are actually quite the same. A few more people tend to pick Alliance over Horde when starting. Perhaps because of the familiarity of Humans and an alignment to Good. The number of each sex is even on both sides. One small difference is with age groups: the average age of Horde players is one year younger than the average age of Alliance players.

Can we see any cause for players to pick one side or the other? Taking a look at what’s important for the players, it turns out that Horde players have a lot higher score when it comes to Advancement, Mechanics and Competition as motivations in the game than Alliance players. To a higher degree they are pushed on by the prospect of achievement and competitiveness. They want to provoke others into conflict and challenge other players, they are more aggressive like the Orcs and Trolls of the Horde are.

But in The Alliance, players want to enjoy the Roleplay side of WoW, and are more motivated by customization: by interacting with other players and characters in a more peaceful way, and building things – characteristics definitely associated with Goodness.

So there you have it: people are drawn to what the races on each side represent: aggression and power against peacful interaction and creating things. Is this true for you?
