Bioshock 2 – a Review for the Ages

BioShock 2 made some awesome improvements, however, some players will still find issues with its overall structure — after all, even with its improved combat, better AI, and amazing presentation, BioShock 2 is very much BioShock at its heart. The game’s mission objectives remain mostly unchanged, asking players to backtrack through previously explored areas to find a key, or meet a designated objective.

2K has also put a lot of care into creating a fitting ending following criticism of the original BioShock’s less the stellar finale, but BioShock 2′s ending might really address the issue; The much-criticized Vita Chambers also make a return, although players can easily shut this feature off before the game even begins. There was a small bit of texture popping, and a bit of audio skipping during my first playthrough.

Still, BioShock 2 not only re-captures the dystopian atmosphere, exciting narrative, but it actually vastly improves on the BioShock experience on the whole, fine-tuning what made Jack’s decent into Rapture such a memorable experience for us those few years ago. 2K Marin has improved greatly upon almost every aspect of Ryan’s undersea society, not only justifying our want for a sequel, but leaving us super eager to re-explore its broken down halls.

I would recommend this game to all males between the ages of thirteen to ninety five and of course all females who would enjoy a trip through the dystopia we have come to know and love as rapture. I would give this game a nine out of ten and boy does it deserve that score.

After you play through this game… Go read a book!
