All About the Super Nintendo System
The Super Nintendo System (SNES) is a 16-bit video game console. It was released between 1990 and 1993 by Nintendo. At the time it was released, the system introduced advanced graphics and sound capabilities. It quickly became the best selling console and had many groundbreaking games. The system is still popular today among fans and collectors. Many feel that playing these games is more about fun and less about technology.
When the Super Nintendo System first came out, the Sega Genesis System was also very popular but Sega advertised their games as adult oriented which was a huge mistake; Nintendo advertised their games concentrating on game design and concept which was a huge factor in their success. The Super Nintendo System had an extremely large array of games and kids and families alike would spend hours playing these games.
One of the most beloved games of all time is Super Mario World. This game features characters named Mario and Luigi as they travel different lands on a quest to rescue Princess Toadstool who has been kidnapped. Levels are accessed through a world map and there are nine worlds, each with several levels. A player will move through each level until they reach the levels exit and they will then unlock a path that leads them to the next level. The game grows intense as Mario runs, jumps, swims, collects coins, defeats enemies and crosses many other hazards. Mario is assisted by using something called power ups – he can become larger, he can fly and he can become invincible to name a few of his powers. This game can become very intricate with its secret levels, traps and mazes. The game actually has 96 exits for a player to find, but you only need to find 39 of them to beat the game. The game also introduces a companion for Mario, a dinosaur name Yoshi. Yoshi can eat most of the enemies and Mario can ride on him. This game has endured into the new millennium with its third re-release in 2007 for the Wii’s Virtual Console.
You will still be able to play this incredible game if you own or purchase the original Super Nintendo System. There are literally hundreds of great games that were produced for this system and almost each one of them was groundbreaking with many going on to become legendary games. Some of the most well known games are Donkey Kong, Chrono Trigger, The Legend of Zelda, Mega Man, Final Fantasy and Street Fighter.
Many games that are played on the Super Nintendo System have become collectible items and are considered rare and expensive to purchase. For example Donkey Kong Country Competition will sell for approximately four hundred dollars. In terms of fun you really cannot go wrong with this groundbreaking system and its many games. You, your friends and your family can still enjoy many hours of great entertainment.
